Basic Driver Improvement (BDI)
Need to complete traffic school after receiving a Florida traffic citation? Our online Basic Driver Improvement course makes it easy to complete your requirement from home, on your own schedule.
The BDI course is an FLHSMV-approved driver improvement course designed to reinforce safe driving habits, Florida traffic laws, defensive driving techniques and responsible decision-making.
Who is BDI for?
BDI is commonly taken by drivers who:
Elect traffic school after receiving an eligible Florida traffic citation
Are ordered by a court or judge to complete Basic Driver Improvement
Are directed by FLHSMV to complete an approved driver improvement course
Want to satisfy an eligible traffic-school requirement while improving their driving knowledge
If you are voluntarily electing traffic school for a citation, Florida generally requires you to make the election with the appropriate Clerk of Court within 30 days of receiving the citation.
What will I learn?
The online course reviews Florida traffic laws, defensive driving, collision prevention, safe following distance, distracted driving, roadway awareness and responsible driving behavior.
How does the online course work?
Enroll online through our approved course provider, complete the required course material from any internet-connected device, and complete the course assessment.
After successful completion, your completion is reported according to the provider's and FLHSMV's required process. FLHSMV also maintains an online traffic-school completion system for approved courses.
Before enrolling: If your course is being required by a court, citation, or FLHSMV notice, verify that BDI is the specific course you have been instructed to complete.
